Back in the 1800s, Cleethorpes was just a few small hamlets. But then, sea-bathing became all the rage. That’s when visitors started pouring in. The opening of the railway in 1863 made it even easier to get there.
The railway company didn’t just stop at trains. They built a lovely mile-long promenade to protect the cliffs. They even constructed Ross Castle in 1885, named after their secretary.
As the years rolled on, the famous ‘Wonderland’ amusement park opened. It was the biggest on the east coast for a long time. People enjoyed dodgems, waltzers, and the Big Dipper until it was taken down in the 80s.
Today, Cleethorpes still draws crowds every summer. Families come for beach days, donkey rides, and arcade fun. It’s a place full of memories and joy.
