Gloucestershire is getting average speed cameras as part of a major road upgrade project aimed at improving safety and traffic flow in the area
Gloucestershire: A steep part of the A417 is getting average speed cameras. This is part of a big £450 million road project to build a new bypass at Birdlip.
The cameras will be set up on the Crickley Hill stretch. This area runs from the A46 Brockworth junction to the Air Balloon roundabout. It’s a steep section with two lanes going up and one coming down.
Right now, they’re closing this part of the A417 overnight. The closures are from 9 PM to 6 AM until Friday. There’s a 10-mile diversion in place, so plan ahead!
National Highways mentioned that the overnight work includes road realignment and setting up barriers. They want to keep everyone safe and reduce traffic disruption.
Motorists should expect some noise as they build the new 3.5-mile bypass. This will connect the M5 at Brockworth to the M4 at Swindon. The project is set to finish in spring 2027.
They’ll also be doing some daytime work starting January 27. This will last about three weeks, and they apologize for any noise.
They’re trying to keep the noise down and finish quickly. Thanks for your patience during this time!
Average speed cameras are already in place near Cowley roundabout. The speed limits there are 40 and 50 mph.
