A young dealer in Cheltenham has been sentenced for supplying drugs to vulnerable individuals, highlighting the ongoing issue of drug-related crime in the area
They got tips from users about Hughes using a specific phone number. He was sending out bulk texts offering drugs, even to his probation officer. One of his messages was pretty wild, asking for various drugs in a slangy way.
On July 7, 2024, police found him in a car. He had a burner phone and £270 cash. When they tried to detain him, he grabbed the phone and ran. But they found him the next day in a flat, along with the phone.
His phone had a taxi booking and a message saying he had just escaped from the police. Hughes faced multiple charges, including supplying crack cocaine and heroin. He admitted to everything but claimed he was pressured by an older guy to deal drugs.
In the end, he got two years and nine months in a young offenders’ institute. He also has to pay a surcharge and forfeit his phone and cash. Police are relieved he’s off the streets, as he was a danger to vulnerable people in Cheltenham. They’re committed to tackling drug dealing in the area.
