MIMMO Studios in Cheltenham has closed its physical store but is moving online and launching pop-up events across the UK
Cheltenham: MIMMO Studios has closed its shop for good. It’s a bummer for local shoppers, but there’s a silver lining. The brand is going online and will host pop-up events.
This store, known for its homeware and fashion, has been around since 2021. They’ve done really well online, with sales jumping over 1,000%. But in-store sales? They’ve dropped by 36%. That’s a big shift in how people shop these days.
The closure comes after some tough times. Rising costs hit hard, with rent going up 260% and business rates increasing by £850 a month. Plus, the UK retail scene is struggling, with many shops closing down.
Cheltenham has felt the pinch too. Foot traffic is down, and extreme weather, like flooding, has made things worse. MIMMO Studios had to shut down for two weeks last October due to flooding.
Katie Brown, one of the co-founders, shared that they want to be sustainable, both for the planet and their business. This change lets them think outside the box and try new things.
They’re excited about the pop-up model. It’ll let them bring their products directly to customers across the UK. Lil Gardiner, another co-founder, said they’re all about reinventing retail and adapting to what people want.
