A Cleethorpes man lost his wedding ring while swimming in Dubai but found it thanks to the kindness of strangers and a former diver’s help.
Dubai: A man from Cleethorpes lost his wedding ring while swimming in the sea. Chris Brightmore had worn the ring for 51 years. It slipped off his finger in about 8 feet of water.
Chris was visiting family in Dubai with his wife, Kathy. They were enjoying a day at Kite Beach when the ring fell off. He immediately dove down but couldn’t find it.
Feeling hopeful, Chris prayed and told himself he would find the ring. When he returned to shore, he told Kathy what happened. Instead of being upset, she was supportive and helped him search for it.
After an hour of searching without success, they decided to ask for help online. They posted about the lost ring on a website called British Dads in Dubai. The response was amazing.
One person offered a metal detector, while another offered to make a replacement ring for free. Chris chose to use the metal detector. Two days later, he and his son-in-law returned to the beach with snorkels and the detector.
They searched for two hours but struggled to stay underwater. Just as they were about to give up, a stranger approached them. He was a former professional diver and offered to help.
With proper diving gear, he searched the seabed. After two more hours, just as Chris and his son-in-law were leaving, the diver shouted, “Eureka!” He had found the ring buried under sand.
Chris was thrilled but not surprised. He had believed all along that the ring would be found. He shared the good news online, and many people responded, saying it restored their faith in kindness.
Chris reflected on the ring’s sentimental value. He bought it with Kathy shortly after they got married. He promised never to lose it again, saying it would only come off if he decided to swim.
