Corporation Bridge in Grimsby is scheduled to reopen this summer after repairs. There were delays, but officials are confident the bridge will open soon.
The bridge opening was first set for Christmas 2023, but problems were found, delaying the project. The council now expects it to open this summer. A council Q&A addressed the bridge work.
A report is needed on the lifting mechanism, and the council has two repair options. They feel confident about the summer reopening. The Q&A covered Cleethorpes projects too.
They also discussed the market’s temporary location, and Grim Falfest was another topic. The Top Town Market shut down on February 1st for demolition and new construction.
The market will temporarily move to a different spot. The temporary market location will open in April, and the council is working with market sellers to help them move quickly.
A larger market with a food hall is planned. Cafes in the market won’t be in the temporary location, as the space lacks needed cafe features. Regeneration comes with disruptions, and the council is aware of concerns.
The council approved the leisure project in December. Most Freshney Place units are occupied, which is a “good problem” to have, they said. Grim Falfest is a popular Viking festival.
A council member wants it to return, as about 8,000 people came in 2023. The festival got funding before, and the council member will try hard to bring it back. Others at the table support the effort as well.
The Q&A also mentioned the beach. Salt marsh growth is a problem there, and they have an agreement with Natural England about it. They cannot use chemicals or machinery.
Workers will remove excess marsh by hand and move it back to the agreed line. The council will demolish Abbey Walk Car Park. The car park is at the end of its life.
They are working with a university and want to protect the art on it.
