Gloucester: The Salvation Army is stepping up to help the homeless. They’re offering free hot meals and sleeping bags as winter gets colder.
In 2024, they served nearly 4,000 hot meals on Mondays. They also distributed 292 sleeping bags and 277 duvets to those in need.
Captain James Addis leads the effort. He says they’re worried about the rising number of homeless people. They serve meals at their church and drive around town in the evenings to help those sleeping rough.
Recent data shows a rise in homelessness in England. In Gloucester, at least 17 people were reported sleeping rough.
Gloucester City Council appreciates the Salvation Army’s support. They encourage residents to report anyone sleeping rough by calling their outreach team.
