A lengthy Gloucester City Council meeting devolved into bickering, with members calling out the childish behavior instead of focusing on the budget.
Gloucester: The city council meeting was a real mess. It felt more like a playground than a serious discussion. Councillors spent almost four hours arguing instead of focusing on the budget.
People were frustrated. The vice-chair even said she was confused about the meeting’s purpose. They were supposed to discuss finances, but instead, it turned into finger-pointing and accusations.
Some councillors brought up unrelated issues, like whether to ban a controversial herbicide. Others questioned how the council tracks rough sleepers and deals with graffiti. It was all over the place.
After three hours, one councillor said they could have wrapped it up much quicker. The bickering was pointless and just wasted everyone’s time.
Insiders say this behavior has been a problem for a while. There have been many complaints about how some councillors act. A special panel is now looking into it.
Last year, the former mayor even mentioned bullying in her farewell speech. She wanted to change the law so councillors would have to undergo background checks.
