Cheltenham: A Gloucestershire police officer has been cleared of assaulting a woman. Former inspector James Wyatt faced charges after an incident on January 20, 2022.

The incident happened in a Waitrose car park. It was reported that the woman fell after being pushed by Wyatt. He denied the charge and was initially found guilty on January 16, 2023. He received a conditional discharge.

Wyatt appealed the conviction and had a retrial on January 17. This time, he was found not guilty, and the previous conviction was overturned.

Wyatt worked as a Force Incident Manager in the Control Room. He was suspended after the allegations surfaced in January 2022.

In November 2024, he faced a misconduct hearing for unrelated issues. These were serious enough to be considered gross misconduct. Wyatt resigned before the hearing but would have been dismissed if he had still been an officer. He was added to the police barred list.
