A building might get a new life in Cheltenham. It is in the town center on Oriel Road. Oriel Lodge shows Gothic revival style, making it a special Grade II listed building. The lodge also sits in a key conservation zone.

Someone wants to fix up Oriel Lodge and run a nursery there. This plan went to the council for approval. The lodge is near the YMCA, the Town Hall, and Imperial Garden.

The plan fixes and improves the building. Some small changes will help transform it into a nursery. Paperwork indicates that the building needs work, with both the inside and outside requiring repairs.

They will add a safe play area for the nursery kids. People and cars will still enter from Oriel Road. Nothing will change there. Most changes involve repairs to the existing building.

They want to add a fence for a play area. Also, a light roof will cover part of the back play space. Small signs by the front railings are planned; these signs already have permission.

The outside of the building is quite run-down right now. New users will repair the property which will improve how it looks. The building’s overall look stays the same. Parking becomes a play area; this can improve things around the building. The new small roof will match the YMCA nearby.

Sutton Cox Architects submitted the plan, helping their client with this project. The building isn’t used these days. A nursery will help pay for fixing it up, with repairs ensuring the lodge looks good and lasts longer.

The changes won’t really harm the building settings. The area around will keep its appeal too.
