The GLCCA is official after government approval. New powers are coming with a mayoral election on May 2. The authority aims to improve business and skills.
Local leaders received the official letter confirming their new authority, the GLCCA. The GLCCA will gain some new powers, with the first board meeting scheduled for early March.
People will vote for a mayor in the mayoral election on May 2. Councillor Philip Jackson welcomes the GLCCA, stating it can help residents by improving business, skills, housing, transport, and infrastructure.
Councillor Rob Waltham is also pleased, believing this marks the beginning of something new for Lincolnshire. He aims for better jobs, transport, and opportunities, empowering people to control their future.
Councillor Martin Hill acknowledges the effort involved, emphasizing that local people should decide local issues. This change can improve people’s daily lives, impacting houses, jobs, and transport choices, enabling direct dialogue with the government and attracting more investment to the area.
Last autumn, the government supported the GLCCA and sought public feedback. The deal includes £720 million over thirty years, along with £28.4 million for immediate projects. The region will have a strong voice led by the mayor.
