A Grimsby school has made impressive gains in the latest league tables, showcasing the hard work of its staff and students
For years, the Progress 8 measure didn’t consider important factors. It ignored things like how many kids come from poorer backgrounds. The Fairer Index aims to fix that.
Developed by the University of Bristol, it looks at things like student demographics and deprivation. Oasis Academy Wintringham is the star of the show, now ranked 1,256. That’s a huge leap from its previous position!
A spokesperson from Oasis Community Learning praised the staff’s hard work. They also mentioned Oasis Academy Immingham, which climbed 1,256 places to rank 1,070.
John Whitgift Academy is also doing well, sitting at 204 in the Fairer Index. That’s up 973 spots! Meanwhile, Melior Community Academy in Scunthorpe jumped 937 places to 1,296.
Both schools are part of Delta Academies Trust. They’re thrilled that the report highlights the need for strong leadership in challenging areas.
Critics of Progress 8 say it hides real issues. They argue it doesn’t show the full picture of school performance. Ofsted is looking into new ways to measure schools better.
Heidi Stennett from Oasis Community Learning expressed pride in the recognition for both academies. She emphasized the daily efforts of the staff to support every student.
The Fairer Schools Index has caught attention from the Northern Powerhouse Partnership. They’re pushing for better evaluation methods for schools across the country.
