Grimsby: The Rumble Band is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. They have two special gigs lined up that you won’t want to miss.

The band formed in the Sixties and had a successful run before breaking up. They reunited thanks to Steve Jackson from the Grimsby Telegraph, who encouraged frontman Dave Ranshaw to perform at a Live Aid concert in 1985.

That concert at the Winter Gardens in Cleethorpes launched their next 40 years of entertaining fans. They’ve played countless gigs and built a loyal following.

On March 8, the band will perform at Louth Town Hall to support local charities. Their second anniversary gig is on September 13 at The Beachcomber in Humberston.

Drummer Ray Wilson has been with the band for 19 years. The current lineup includes lead singer Allan Scorer and three backing singers. The brass section features talented musicians on trumpet, sax, and trombone.

Ray mentioned that while some members have changed over the years, the band has maintained its professional sound. They’ve played at famous venues like The Alexandra Palace and the Isle of Wight Festival.

They’re excited about their upcoming celebration tour and a big theatre tour planned for 2026. To support Louth Lions, tickets for the Beachcomber gig will go on sale later in March.

Ray believes the band’s longevity comes from their love for soul music and the camaraderie among members. They enjoy performing and focus on having fun rather than making money.

Duncan, another band member, shared that the Beachcomber gig will feature the same set they played at Live Aid, plus some new additions. He noted that their success is partly due to the popularity of Motown music.

He loves seeing young fans at their shows, even if they weren’t born when the music first came out. The band aims to deliver a high standard of music and an exciting live experience.

Former frontman Dave Ranshaw reflected on the band’s history and their memorable performances. He recalled how they quickly put together their Live Aid set and the excitement it generated locally.

The Rumble Band has played at many venues, including hotels in London and local favorites like The Winter Gardens. They have a rich history of performing great soul music.

The Louth & District Lions Club, which has been active since 1969, supports various local initiatives. They’ve provided defibrillators and other resources to the community.

Lion Liz Shaw mentioned that they enjoy fundraising events, including casino nights and a summer beer festival. They’ve hosted The Rumble Band before, but this anniversary celebration is extra special.

Tickets for the gigs are available now, so don’t miss out!
