Cleethorpes: A woman met her future husband after he texted a random number in 1998. Donovan Shears sent “hello” messages for fun after getting his first mobile phone.

One of those messages reached Kirsty, who replied with a simple “hi.” This sparked a conversation that changed their lives forever. They quickly hit it off and arranged a date in Coventry.

After texting back and forth, they finally met six months later. Donovan invited Kirsty to Coventry, and she took a train to see him. Their first date included a night out and a kebab.

Donovan, now 45 and working in cyber security, recalls how they described their appearances before camera phones. Kirsty was impressed when Donovan turned out to be 6ft 6ins tall.

They fell in love, and in 2002, they tied the knot. Now, they have two children, Stirling and Alora. They plan to renew their vows at Coventry Cathedral this Valentine’s Day.

Donovan shared how excited their kids are for the event, especially his daughter, who can’t wait to see her mom dressed up.
