Cleethorpes: Broadcaster and DJ Adele Roberts is rallying folks to kick off the new year by signing up for Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life. The event is coming up soon in Cleethorpes.

This popular charity event raises funds for vital cancer research. It’s happening at Meridian Park on Sunday, May 11. There’s also a Race for Life at Lincolnshire Showground on Saturday, July 19.

If you sign up in January, you can snag a 50% discount on the entry fee. Just use the code RACE25NY. In the East of England, around 37,400 people are diagnosed with cancer each year.

The money raised helps scientists find new ways to prevent and treat cancer. Adele, who beat bowel cancer in 2021, now lives with a stoma she calls “Audrey.”

Just 18 months after her surgery and treatment, she set a Guinness World Record in London as the fastest woman to run a marathon with an ileostomy. Now, she’s aiming to conquer all six World Major Marathons to raise funds for Cancer Research UK and the Attitude Mag Foundation.

Adele shared her personal story, saying she races for her sister Lois. Their family has faced cancer losses, and Lois wanted to honor their loved ones by participating in Race for Life.

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, supported by Standard Life, raises millions each year to help beat cancer. Patrick Keely from Cancer Research UK said, “No matter how cancer affects us, life is worth racing for.”

He added that nearly 1 in 2 people will face cancer, but everyone can help fight it. Race for Life has already doubled survival rates in the UK.

Every penny raised makes a real difference. The events are non-competitive, so everyone can join in and enjoy themselves. Just lace up your shoes and take part!

Since starting in 1994, over 10 million people have participated in Race for Life, funding 30 years of hope. Cancer Research UK has played a key role in developing vaccines and treatments that save lives.
