A local club’s quick response ensures safer access for lung health checks in Scunthorpe, helping the community stay healthy during cold weather.
When the weather turned cold, Miranda Brown, the club’s business manager, noticed the icy steps and potholes. She quickly took action to make things safer for everyone. Miranda said they had previously welcomed the mobile unit, and it was important to keep the area safe.
She mentioned how the car park can get icy and that potholes can become a real issue. Miranda spoke with the grounds staff, who immediately started salting the steps and fixing the potholes. The lung health team expressed their gratitude for the club’s support during the cold snap.
Miranda also pointed out that many locals might not know about the services available at the club. They’ve been around for about 100 years, initially serving British Steel employees, but now they welcome everyone.
The club offers various sports and activities, and Miranda encouraged people to check out their website for more info. Over 10,000 residents in Scunthorpe have been invited for free lung checks. This initiative aims to catch lung cancer and other conditions early.
The program is set to expand to over 22,000 people in North Lincolnshire. It targets past and current smokers aged 55 to 74. Eligible participants received letters inviting them to book phone assessments.
The mobile unit will soon move to another location in North Lincolnshire. Dr. Stuart Baugh from the NHS emphasized the importance of these checks for early detection and better health outcomes. For more details, you can visit lunghealthcheck.org.uk.
