A Grimsby man swam 2,740 laps to raise money for brain tumour research in memory of his sister, who passed away from the disease
John’s sister, Julie Wilson, sadly passed away from a brain tumour in January 2020. She was only 60. Diagnosed in 2018, she fought hard but lost her battle.
John raised over £2,740, which funds a day of research. He and his wife, Ann, visited the Brain Tumour Research Centre at Imperial College London. There, they learned how their efforts help scientists.
John placed a tile on the Wall of Hope in memory of Julie. He shared how much she meant to him and her family. Julie was a loving person with a supportive family.
Her son, Sam, also raised money for the same cause. He cycled from Land’s End to John O’Groats, bringing in £5,000. John expressed how devastating Julie’s diagnosis was.
He hopes their donations will help others in the future. Sadly, it’s too late for Julie, but he believes in making a difference.
Ashley McWilliams from Brain Tumour Research thanked John for his support. She highlighted the need for more funding for brain tumour research.
Brain tumours are a serious issue, affecting many lives. They need more attention and funding to find better treatments.
