Mayor Addresses Everton Fan Concerns Over Sandhills Station Plan

The city is working on the new Everton stadium. They are improving Sandhills Station for fans, and a plan for a “fan zone” at the station exists.

Mayor Rotheram shared a video about the station that showed metal fences controlling crowds. These fences manage fans going to the stadium. The mayor said the zone helps fans travel safely, getting them to and from the stadium for a quick and safe trip.

Some fans dislike the plan, thinking it is just barriers on pavement. Many find it embarrassing and inadequate, expecting more after years of planning. The city responded to the criticism, saying this is only the first step, and the station will get more improvements later.

The queue system prevents platform crowding, making trips to the stadium safer. They are using methods that already work elsewhere. The city will add more features to the zone, planning toilets and a stage.

Food areas and screens are also coming, along with better CCTV and lights. More staff will also be present. These changes enhance safety and accessibility. A test event uses this setup on February 17th. The city wants fans to have a good time.
