Review of ward boundaries paused after initial stage. Conservative council leaders propose Lincolnshire’s reduction from ten councils to two.
They had an initial review, but Conservatives wanted Freshney Ward gone. The next review stage was set for February 4th. Now, the commission’s website says it’s paused.
They mention a government paper on English Devolution. The paper talks about reorganizing local government. That means maybe less two-tier council areas too.
Leaders from three councils sent a letter. All are Conservatives and want change in Lincolnshire. Their letter suggested only two councils. Currently, Lincolnshire has ten councils.
Rumor has it, an announcement is coming. It will address council reorganization interests. A spokesperson said they’ll consider new information. This is before they consult with the public. It is about North East Lincolnshire.
That letter caused political problems. It suggested ten councils become two. The council leader, Philip Jackson, discussed government rules. Reorganized councils must serve around 500,000. Minister Jim McMahon says councils must reorganize.
They even requested scrapping the 2026 elections. This applies if council changes happen soon. Basically, everything is on hold for now.
