Engineers are closing the A436 near the Air Balloon roundabout to prevent flooding. A 12-mile diversion will be in place during overnight closures this week.
Gloucestershire: Recent heavy rain has led to early flood prevention work on the A436. National Highways announced overnight closures near the Air Balloon roundabout this week.
The closures will happen from 9 PM to 6 AM on February 6 and 7. A 12-mile diversion will guide drivers around the area.
National Highways explained that the work is to install permanent drainage to prevent future flooding. They apologized for the short notice due to the weather changes.
They assured everyone that diversion routes will be clearly marked. Access for residents and emergency services will remain open during the closures.
For eastbound traffic, follow the A417 towards Gloucester, then take the A46 Shurdington Road. For westbound traffic, continue on the A436 towards Cheltenham and follow the A40.
The A417 Missing Link scheme aims to improve local roads and includes new junctions and pathways for walkers and cyclists. This project will enhance connectivity in the area.
