A student was left unconscious after an unprovoked attack in Cleethorpes, disrupting his studies and work placement
The attacker, Bailey McCabe, was just 18. He admitted to wounding without intent. CCTV showed him acting like he was in a boxing match before throwing a punch.
The victim was there for a family birthday party. He went to check on a friend who had been assaulted. Suddenly, he was on the ground, not remembering anything after that. It was totally unprovoked.
After the attack, McCabe ran off but later went to the police. The victim ended up in the hospital, and his studies were affected. He missed two weeks of work and felt anxious about his future.
His defense lawyer mentioned that McCabe is a young man with no prior issues. He works at a warehouse and hopes to get a permanent job soon. Alcohol played a role in his actions, and he promised to avoid getting drunk again.
The judge pointed out that turning 18 doesn’t mean you act like an adult. She noted the victim expected a fun night but ended up hurt. McCabe received a suspended sentence and was ordered to do community service and pay compensation.
