Grimsby: Traders are packing up, and shoppers are feeling emotional at Top Town Market. It’s closing after nearly 50 years to make way for new developments.

The market will move to One Beyond at Riverhead Square in April. About ten traders will relocate, while others will close for good.

On the last trading day, shoppers shared their sadness. Judy said it’s the end of an era. Joyce mentioned it’s a big change since many stalls are closing.

Kathy, who runs K&P Collectibles, is packing her stock. She’s received gifts from loyal customers. She feels the market is a true community.

Fred’s Fisheries, a fishmonger for over 30 years, will also close. Sue, a staff member, will miss chatting with customers who come to socialize.

Mark, who runs Marks, Get Specs, Go!, won’t move to the new location. He’ll set up at Freeman Street Market instead. He’s worried about the loss of cafés.

Sharon, from Cards and Party Box, hopes the new market will keep the same community feel. She’s been preparing for the move with little time.

Debbie, who runs Temple Ranch Clothing, is excited to move to One Beyond. She feels welcomed and is ready to offer something new to Grimsby.

A council spokesperson explained the closure is necessary for demolition and asbestos removal. They’re working on finding suitable spaces for traders.
