John Burton-Race, a renowned chef, is now the Executive Head Chef at The Nook On Five, bringing exciting new dishes and a fresh menu to Cheltenham’s rooftop dining.
Burton-Race has a long career, spanning 35 years. He has worked in top restaurants like Hotel Meurice and Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons. He even earned his first Michelin Star at Le Petit Blanc in Oxford.
He became well-known through his TV shows, including French Leave and I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! in 2007.
At The Nook On Five, he plans to add a twist to classic British dishes. The restaurant is located at The Quadrangle, Imperial Square. New seasonal menus will also be introduced.
Starting in February, a new daytime menu will feature dishes like a Nook smashed burger and Italian-style wild boar ragu. There will also be a delicious Tiramisu.
Evening diners can look forward to a refreshed A la Carte menu. This will include roasted brill, prawn and scallop ravioli, and honey and citrus glazed duck. Classic favorites like beef wellington will still be available.
Burton-Race expressed his excitement about joining The Nook On Five. He aims to enhance the dining experience while keeping beloved dishes.

Burton-Race has earned multiple Michelin stars at various luxury venues. He plans to bring his culinary skills to the Nook Deli, expanding its offerings with pastries and desserts.
The Nook is a family-run business known for its fine dining. Owner Edward Surman is thrilled to have Burton-Race on board. They aim to provide a unique experience using local produce.
The Nook On Five will also offer a special Valentine’s Day tasting menu from February 8-14. This menu will feature exclusive recipes, perfect for a romantic dinner.
The new daytime and A la Carte menus will be available from February 3, 2025. Reservations can be made online or via email.
