Gloucestershire police are alerting residents about a rise in car key burglaries. Thieves are targeting high-value vehicles in the area, so stay vigilant.
Recently, several homes in places like Highnam, Yorkley, Bream, and Mitcheldean have been hit. In one case, thieves broke into a home on Sovereign Chase and took two sets of keys. They then drove off in a Mercedes Benz.
Another incident happened the same night on Bailey Hill in Yorkley. Thieves stole keys to a Hyundai I20 and took off in it. It’s getting a bit scary out there.
On January 16, police got a call about a break-in on High Street in Bream. The culprits forced their way in, likely looking for car keys. They also hit a home on The Crescent in Mitcheldean, stealing keys to a BMW 330E M Sport.
So far, none of the stolen cars have been found. High-value cars like BMWs, Audis, and Range Rovers are prime targets because they can be sold for a lot of cash.
If you want to protect your car, consider using a signal blocker for your keys. Keep them away from doors and think about using steering wheel locks or CCTV. Parking defensively can also help.
Stay alert and report anything suspicious to the police. You can call 101 or check out the Gloucestershire Constabulary’s website for more tips on keeping your vehicle safe.
