Hereford locals are worried about losing a major car park, fearing it will hurt businesses and convenience for shoppers and workers alike
The council wants to build over 200 new homes and some shops there. They’ve got a £2 million government grant to spend by the end of the year. But folks are asking, where will everyone park?
Heather Smith, who runs a shop nearby, said it’ll “kill the town.” She pointed out that the car park was packed during Christmas. Even on a regular weekday, it’s still busy.
She uses it for stock deliveries, and it’s tough to get larger vehicles into the multi-storey car park. Many retailers share her worries.
Retired bus driver Roy Yarnold mentioned he uses the car park for reunions with old colleagues. He thinks losing it would be a big hassle, especially during football games.
Lisa Thomas, a dental receptionist, finds Merton Meadow cheap and convenient. She can’t park on the street, and most city spots have time limits. But she’s had issues with flooding there before.
Stuart Davies, who parks there for shopping, agrees it’s the best option for price and convenience. The council hasn’t responded to concerns yet, and they seem slow to roll out a new “park-and-choose” scheme.
People are really hoping the council listens to their concerns before making any big changes.
