A Cheltenham man faces a lifetime dog ban after his XL Bully attacked a dog and its owner, leading to serious injuries.
The attack took place on May 7, 2023. Ilott’s dog was off the lead when it lunged at the victim’s dog. It grabbed the other dog by the neck. The owner tried to help but ended up getting bitten himself.
He had deep puncture wounds that needed hospital care. The victim’s dog also got hurt and had to see a vet. Ilott was charged for having a dangerous dog that caused injuries.
His XL Bully was seized, and it’s now a banned breed. At first, Ilott denied his dog did any harm. But later, he changed his plea to guilty in court.
Police said Ilott didn’t control his dog, which led to serious injuries for both the man and his pet. The court decided the dog must be humanely destroyed.
Ilott received a six-month prison sentence, but it’s suspended for a year. He also has to pay costs to the victim. This case serves as a warning to all dog owners about keeping their pets under control.
